It’s been 13 years since Charleston, SC band Jump, Little Children released an album, but that will change September 14 with the release of their new album Sparrow. This week they released the first single from Sparrow. The lyric video for “Hand on My Heartache” helps you wrap your head around lead singer Jay Clifford’s lyrics that quickly roll off the tongue.
Matthew Bivins spoke with American Songwriter for the release of the single talking about the bands long hiatus and their return.
“Our first post-hiatus show in 2015 was simply a matter of timing: a decade to the day of our last performance at the Dock Street Theatre in Charleston,” the band’s Matthew Bivins says. “Our expectations were low; we were doing it because we missed each other. However we underestimated the fans and their desire to rekindle the community that we had created together. The reunion show became a reunion tour, and this community soon made it clear that they would be willing to help us make new music, too.”
The response for the reunion shows and the subsequent releases and tours has been amazing for the band. At this point it’s somewhat understated how much Jump, Little Children’s influenced all types of musicians from South Carolina. Numerous times they’ve been mentioned to me in interviews as a huge influence. Now, with the new album and reunion shows it will give them a chance to make new fans along with giving the older ones what they’ve been wanting for over a decade now.
Catch them live this fall at one of their regional tour stops!
