Sometimes Battle of the Bands get a bad rap. After-all, these days we push a more friendly atmosphere when it comes to our local music community, with bands supporting each other instead of competing against each other per se. I like to look at it all as friendly and healthy competition. There should be a lot of that in every music community. You should want to be better, and work hard to be the best that you can be and make the best out of each opportunity at hand.
Over the years some excellent bands have emerged onto the scene from Battle of the Bands. Even the bands that didn’t win often gained a lot of fans and created some great relationships with the bands they were pitted against. That’s how it should be, and that’s what I think the bands playing Wednesday at New Brookland Tavern will find. Bellavida, Dead Swells, and Post-Timey String Band have already made a name for themselves on local shows and festivals. Bands at this battle of the bands look to get more involved with New Music Confab in Charleston this coming August, an event where bands showcase for industry types from all around the country.
