Trey Martin began playing guitar at seven years old and started teaching lessons in 2016. He first became involved with Freeway Music as a student at the age of 13. After spending time in the school’s Rock Band classes and filling in as a substitute teacher for lessons, he grew within the company to started teaching students of his own. As a teacher, Trey prioritizes teaching students to love the instrument and music in general. While his veteran students are expected to practice certain material or learn various standards, he caters lessons for beginners to fit their interests and needs. His students learn a variety of techniques and genres, but his teaching strengths include chords, scales, general music theory, rhythm skills and improvisation. Trey has been involved in the Columbia music scene since his teenage years, playing both original and cover music in various local bands at venues around the city. He currently leads and plays guitar for OUTEREGO, an indie-funk band based in Columbia. In his free time, Trey enjoys playing video games, writing and watching sports. He produces podcasts for individual business owners around the state and also writes posts in his own blog. He graduated from the University of South Carolina in 2021 and is a huge Gamecock fan.
