Flood Fundraisers on the Horizon

There’s a host of music related flood fundraisers happening over the next two weeks of all types, from the Waka Flocka Flame show featuring local rap standout Ben G. November 9 at Music Farm to a very diverse two night line up at New Brookland Tavern featuring all types of bands and entertainers. These are the latest in a line of fundraiser shows since the flood that affected so many in our community weeks ago. In addition to the events is a SC Flood Relief compilation that has ballooned into a 96 song compilation that’s raised hundreds of dollars for Central Carolina Community since its release October 6. The comp features not only artists from Columbia, but across the Carolina’s and beyond as artists from all over wanted to contribute in some way. Buried in the compilation are some gems of songs from local artists, including brand new songs from Stagbriar, one of Columbia’s best bands that’s been quiet for too long now, and a new song from Columbia indie rockers ET Anderson. While those two songs come within the first 12 on the compilation, another new one from Jade Blocker is buried deep at track 83. Blocker’s new song is a stripped down recording featuring just guitar and vocals, a perfect palette to feature the songwriters naturally soulful voice. Those are just three highlights from a compilation featuring a whole lot of them.

The Flood Raisers at New Brookland Tavern kick off Friday night with an evening featuring some of Columbia’s heaviest bands. The metal scene might not always get the attention it deserves, but has long been one of Columbia’s most supported scenes. The show Saturday is even more diverse with Comedians and solo acoustic acts mixed with full band performances from seven bands, acoustic performances from four along with comedy sets.
