Picking up the saxophone at eleven years old, Davis’ goal has always been about having fun on the horn. His first inspiration for taking on the saxophone was the late LeRoi Moore of the Dave Mattews Band. Quickly into Davis’ playing history, he gravitated towards the tenor and began to take interest in jazz. His passion for jazz began upon discovering modern saxophonist, James Carter, on the internet. Davis credits the exciting and unorthodox sounds made on Carter’s horn as the primary inspiration to make sure playing the saxophone is always fun. Throughout his high school years, Davis received many awards at various jazz festivals including the SCBDA Jazz Festival, Discovery Jazz Festival in Rock Hill and Heritage Festival in Atlanta. He is also a three time recipient of the Louis Armstrong Jazz Award. Davis is now attending the University of South Carolina as an Elementary Education major and Music minor. He has the aspiration to become an elementary music teacher hoping to someday teach the joys of music to young children. He continues to grow his passion for Jazz as he plays with Left Bank Big Band and jazz combo at USC. Davis is also the director of the Crossroads Middle School Jazz Band which is comprised entirely of beginning sixth grade musicians. Apart from jazz, Davis can also be found playing around town with local college cover bands or bagging your groceries at your Irmo Kroger!
