Idris Chandler has been studying cello and performing for over twenty years. He has taught in public schools for over seven years. Idris studied under Dr. Robert Jesselson, cello professor at the University of South Carolina, and former president of the American String Teachers Association for nine of those years, earning a Bachelor of Music Education. He has performed with several orchestras in the Carolinas, including the South Carolina and Charlotte Philharmonic. He is a former student and teacher of the USC String Project and provides instruction on violin, viola and double bass. Idris participates in activities in area schools including sectionals, judging, seating auditions, and private lessons. He is thankful to have been invited to perform at area venues with the likes of Ray Charles, Edwin McCain, and Lou Rawls. He currently performs with the Resonance String Quartet. Providing the string arrangements and background vocals, he is a member of the guitar/cello duo “DayClean,” which combines elements of soul, folk, and hip-hop to create a unique and eclectic sound.
